Poetry Contest

Comments - Charming scene of beauties taking part in a poetry contest. The women sit at low lacquer tables as they compose their verses, writing them on narrow strips of paper called tanazku. Behind the beauty at upper right, a folding screen features a dragon emerging from the clouds, and a shelf holds scrolls and stacks of books. The room opens onto a garden at upper left, a plum tree dotted with buds and blossoms. An attractive design, detail with faint embossing on the white kimono collars.
