Housecleaning - Terrific scene of women in cleaning a samurai's mansion in preparation for the New Year's holidays. At right, a beauty carries in a tray of cups, while her companion below wrings out a cloth over the handle of a bucket of water. The woman at top center has a broom over her shoulder, her hair protectively covered with a cloth. Tatami mats are stacked behind her while a screen decorated with a crane rests against a wooden post. A charming look at Edo era life, beautifully detailed.
