Prince Genji at Sodegaura in Sagami Province, 1855

Comments - Terrific scene of Prince Genji and his companions enjoying an evening of writing and composing verses in a room overlooking the water at Sodegaura in Sagami Province. In the center, the young nobleman sits on a cushion behind a low desk, a brush in hand and an open book before him. A young girl eagerly offers him a parcel wrapped in cloth. At right, a beauty looks up from the book she is reading to chat with a companion. An alcove behind the standing woman contains two hanging scrolls with a scene of Mt. Fuji. A lovely design with wonderful detail in the elegant fabrics and interior setting, including embossing on the scrolls and burnishing on the black kimono, the edge of the cushion, and the lacquer trim on the bottom of the alcove.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 29 1/2" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight creasing and soiling. A few holes, repaired. Some toning and rubbing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
