Ide Gakusui - Gakusui studied Japanese-style painting, and lived in China during the 1930s. After World War II ended, he returned to Japan and began designing kacho-e (birds and flowers prints) for Watanabe in the late 1940s. His realistic works are beautifully rendered.
Comments - Handsome, rather abstracted modern design of two cranes, the birds drawn in a rather angular fashion. The dynamic lines of the background add a sense of energy that compliments the subject. An intriguing and rather unusual style for a shin-hanga print.
