Comments - Terrific triptych of the Meiji Emperor watching a Noh theater performance of the drama "Ishibashi" with a group of ladies from the Imperial Palace. The performer dances onstage, his red wig flowing, as musicians accompany him with hand drums. The beauties kneel on the rich floral patterned Western style carpeting, while the Emperor and a dignitary sit in red velvet chairs trimmed with fringe. Finely detailed with vibrant jewel tone colors, embossing on the white kimono trim, and burnishing on the black kimono and uniforms.
