Viewing Plum Blossoms at Night, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Charming image of beauties on an outing to view the blossoming plum trees at night. The beauty in the center pauses to look back at her companion with a smile, her kimono decorated with peonies. The woman at right carries two bundles wrapped in cloth. At left, a matron looks up to admire the blossoms and buds dotting the ancient tree, a fan in hand. The tree grows along the edge of the shore, and fishing boats with fire baskets can be seen on the water in the distance. A lovely early spring scene, detailed with faint embossing on the matron's white kimono collar and trim.
