The Noda Jewel River in Mutsu Province

Series; The Six Jewel Rivers

The Noda Jewel River in Mutsu Province - Beautiful scene of brine maidens from a series depicting young women in natural settings along the Six Tama or Jewel Rivers. Two of the beauties are collecting salt water for processing into salt, the woman in the center carrying a yoke with pails suspended by ropes over her shoulder. The beauty behind her pulls a small wagon with a wooden tub on it. Both wear straw aprons over their delicately detailed kimono. A wonderfully detailed design with small birds on the ground, colorful leaves on the maple tree at right, and a traditional thatched-roof home in the background. Lovely soft color and elegant line work. A terrific Edo era design from a rarely seen series.
