Bando Hikosaburo as Konoshita Tokichi and Kawarasaki Gonjuro as Ishikawa Goemon, 1863

Comments - Handsome scene of the samurai Konoshita Tokichi meeting with Ishikawa Goemon outdoors at night. Tokichi kneels on the grass, leaning expectantly towards the nobleman, without looking directly at him. The samurai is formally dressed in a gourd patterned kamishimo over a green print kimono, his two swords at his side. Goemon regards him solemnly, with brows slightly furrowed. He wears a voluminous black robe with a beautiful burnished design over full pants, a tall court cap tied under his chin with a tasseled cord. Lush green foliage fills the background against a dark evening sky. From left, the actors are Bando Hikosaburo and Kawarasaki Gonjuro. A great design, with handsome wood grain impression in the sky.
