Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Mashiba Hisayoshi and Hatsugiku, 1883

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait featuring Bando Kakitsu as Mashiba Hisayoshi, the kabuki counterpart for the real-life Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi, and Iwai Matsunosuke as Hatsugiku. Hisayoshi frowns soberly as he stares ahead, a tasseled command baton in his hand. He wears a blue kamishimo over a purple print kimono and suit of armor, and a tall black court cap with metal horns. The beauty looks up with a smile, her hands thrown out as if surprised. Vibrantly colored and nicely detailed with burnishing in the black cap.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color as shown. Creasing, slight soiling, a few ink marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
