Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Night Rain at Karasaki

Series; Eight Views of Omi Province

Takamizawa Reprints - Handsome reprint by the venerable Takamizawa publisher. Takamizawa was known as one of the finest reprint publishers of the 20th century, and produced some of the highest quality ukiyo-e woodblock reprints of all time. Drawing on the traditions and methods of the Edo era, the prints were produced replicating original Edo era colors and printed on beautiful handmade paper. The printers worked with the utmost care and great attention to detail, masterfully reproducing color and line work. All prints bear the red or brown "Takamizawa" seal on the reverse attesting to the Takamizawa publication of these prints. A great opportunity to acquire a fine reprint of a classic ukiyo-e design.

An early Takamizawa series - This beautifully printed series of Hiroshige designs is from a low quantity Takamizawa release, from their most prolific period, when they were producing exceptionally high quality prints. This particular series was released in a small printing and is a nice series to collect from.

Night Rain at Karasaki - Fantastic view of the huge pine at Karasaki, towering over the stone embankment in a night rain. Beautiful image in soft tones of grays and blues, with heavy gray raindrops falling straight down. A lovely, atmospheric design.
