Poems by Miyazawa Kenji - Interesting print from a series pairing woodblock images with poems by Miyazawa Kenji (1896 - 1933). A novelist, poet, and author of stories and verses for children, Miyazawa earned little recognition for his writing during his lifetime, but his works have become popular since his death, with much interest generated in the mid-1990s around the centenary of his birth. In 1985, his novel "Night on the Galactic Railroad" was adapted as an anime film. There is a museum dedicated to his work in his hometown of Hanamaki. These illustrations have a charming simplicity, with bold black outlines and a limited color palette. A nice choice for a collector.
