Clear Weather after Snow at Kameyama

Series; Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido

Hiroshige’s Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido - In 1832, Hiroshige first traveled from his home in Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto along the Tokaido road. The journey was an eye opening and life changing experience for him. As an urban man of Edo he had experienced life mainly in the capital. He immediately returned to Edo after the trip and began his masterwork woodblock series from the sketches he had made on his journey. Hiroshige's Tokaido prints are an opportunity to be transported back in time to see this world as Hiroshige did in the shadow of the Tokugawa Shogunate.

They hired the finest woodblock printers and carvers in the world for this endeavor. The resulting prints were some of the highest quality reproductions ever made. Clear Weather after Snow at Kameyama - Beautiful winter landscape of a daimyo's procession climbing up the steep slope towards Kameyama Castle, which perches atop its stone foundations at upper right. Tall pine trees line the path, and the rooftops of a village are nestled at the foot of the mountains below. A fantastic snow scene, one of the best from the Tokaido series and a highly sought-after design. A beautiful example of Hiroshige's winter landscapes, with soft shading in the mountains and sky.
