Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido by Two Brushes

Okitsu: Kiyomigaseki, Kiyomi-dera Temple, and Tago Bay - Interesting image from a Hiroshige and Toyokuni III collaborative series known as "The Tokaido by Two Brushes." In the foreground, Toyokuni III depicts and beauty and a blind man resting while traveling. The woman sits quietly, pushing up the sleeve of her kimono as he companion rests his hand on her shoulder. Two woven hats rest on top of some trunks at left. Above, the landscape by Hiroshige depicts the Tago Bay with waves lapping gently along the curving shore, and fishing nets stretched up to dry. A flock of birds takes flight above the water, with a village nestled along the distant coast beneath a rounded hill. This print is from a later edition with a colored background.

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Horizontal, vertical, and diagonal folds. Slight thinning at corners, small hole, repaired. Wrinkling, slight toning and soiling, a couple stains. Please see photos for details.
