Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Nakamura Fukusuke I as Omiwa, 1859

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "Imoseyama Onna Teikin" of the beauty Omiwa, the daughter of a liquor store owner, dancing along as she follows the samurai, Motome, with whom she is in love. When Motome leaves to secretly follow the Princess Tachibana, Omiwa attaches a thread to his kimono so she can follow him, too. She tilts her head and grins coyly as she flings one sleeve up above her head, a spool of white thread tucked in the back of her obi. Cherry blossoms frame the evening sky above a grassy slope beyond. The actor is Nakamura Fukusuke I as Omiwa. An attractive design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 5/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Vertical centerfold. Slight soiling, a few creases and small spots. Please see photos for details.
