Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Matron and Young Boys, 1876

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a matron in the center holding the hand of a young boy, grimacing angrily as she looks back over her shoulder out of the corners of her eyes. At left, a samurai holes the hand of another child, glaring back at the matron. At right, a beauty watches with a concerned expression as she pulls up her outer kimono. In her other hand she holds a bamboo vase with a blossoming cherry branch in it. An attractive design with the large figures set off by a deep red background and a simulated bamboo frame.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with somewhat stiff paper. Horizontal wrinkle in each panel. Slight soiling and ink offsetting, a few creases, slight rubbing at edge. Please see photos for details.
