The Night Attack of the Loyal Retainers, 1864

Comments - Incredible illustration of the 47 ronin's night attack on Moronao's mansion with a fierce battle raging in the snowy courtyard. In the center, one of Moronao's men fights with a sword in each hand, blood streaming from wounds on his head and leg. At left, one of the ronin slices through an enemy's skull with one stroke of his blade, blood spurting through the air. A fascinating, if rather gruesome, depiction of this epic tale of honor and revenge. A great subject for a Yoshitoshi collector or anyone interested in the samurai tradition.
