Ichikawa Kodanji as Ude no Kizaburo, 1863 - Terrific kabuki scene of Ichikawa Kodanji as Ude no Kizaburo at left, using a bamboo ladder to defend himself against attackers. He stares ahead with a determined frown as he pushes away his enemies. At right, a young samurai watches with a slight smile, his hair pulled back into a thick topknot tied with a white cord. The older man behind him looks over Kizaburo's shoulder with a worried expression, his eyes wide and brows furrowed. A dramatic composition with nice large figures set against the night sky.
