Matsushima no Tsubone

Series; Mirror of Beauties Past and Present, 1875 - 1876

Matsushima no Tsubone - Charming portrait of the lady-in-waiting (tsubone) Matsushima writing a letter, a brush in one hand and a roll of paper in the other. She smiles happily as she looks down, wearing a blue-green kimono patterned with colorful tie-dyed patches over a red under robe. At right, a vase holds a blossoming plum branch, an early sign of spring. An attractive design, nicely detailed with light embossing on the white kimono collar and trim.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Partially backed with paper. Small hole, repaired. Slight soiling and ink offsetting, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
