Comments - Terrific scene of the Shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo watching as his men practice fighting skills. Wearing full armor and black helmets, two groups face off in a mock battle, armed with spears with padded tips. Samurai are gathered to watch, and noblemen sit alongside the pavilion in the center where Lord Yoritomo presides from a cushion on a platform. Pine trees frame the scene above. The text panel at upper right reads: "In preparation to conquer the Heike at their stronghold in Ichi-no-Tani, Lord Yoritomo makes Noriyori and Yoshitsune the leaders of two sides with long and short spears and observes their practice maneuvers." A fascinating subject, wonderfully detailed.
