Lake Hamana by Morikazu Maeda (born 1932)

Original Morikazu Maeda (born 1932) Japanese Woodblock Print
Lake Hamana

Morikazu Maeda - Morikazu Maeda started as an oil painter, but began making woodblock prints after seeing the work of Yamaguchi Gen. He had his first solo exhibition of woodblocks in 1955, and has been a member of Nihon Hanga Kyokai since 1964. His landscapes have a dreamy, somewhat abstracted appearance, many with extensive, fine patterning that invites closer inspection. He creates small limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil. He sometimes signs his name in English, but from right to left so that is appears backwards. His large format designs are a nice choice for a contemporary collector or as framed displays.
