Series; Famous Places in the Eastern Capital

View of Suruga-cho, circa 1832 - 1838 - Terrific view of busy Suruga-cho street in Edo, with shoppers and laborers going about their day. The large department store Echigoya lines the street, its crest featured prominently on the blue curtains covering the shops. Two beauties stop to admire a display at left as a porter walks by carrying wooden tubs of fish from a yoke over his shoulders. The composition leads the eye down the street to a view of Mt. Fuji in the distance, with a rosy glow spreading along the horizon. A great scene from city life in old Edo, nicely detailed.
