The Hokusai Manga - Hokusai first conceived of his Manga series in 1812 on a trip to the Kyoto area. Hokusai personally chose the title "Manga," meaning "sketches from life," because he wished to depict an unlimited range of scenes, objects, and people, freely and at random, allowing his incomparable brush to lead him where it would. The complete set of Manga books was released in a total of 15 volumes over 64 years and was a project that he returned to again and again throughout his career. Each print expresses his wonderful ability to capture human gestures and personalities, often with comic overtones.

Original Edition by Unsodo - This handsome complete volume was printed by Unsodo Publishing of Kyoto in 1969 from the original Edo era blocks. The venerable firm of Unsodo was founded in 1891, and is one of just a few Japanese woodblock publishers still in business today. Each design is printed by hand on handmade paper, and the volumes have paper covers and traditional stab bindings like the originals. Each is in pristine condition. Original complete Edo era Manga books are getting harder to find, and most have condition issues. These Unsodo edition books are a terrific way to acquire Hokusai's classic imagery.

Hokusai Manga, Complete Volume 5 - This is a complete Volume 5 of the Unsodo edition of Hokusai Manga. Volume 5 includes 55 woodblock comprised of diptychs and single panel subjects, prints plus a title page and two text pages. Subjects are primarily architectural elements, along with noblemen and beauties, a view of Mt. Fuji, and a few demons. A great opportunity to purchase a complete volume from Hokusai's famous manga series.
