Hibiya and Soto-Sakurada from Yamashita-cho - Handsome depiction of Hibiya and Soto-Sakurada from Yamashita-cho on New Year's Day. A traditional holiday game similar to badminton is being played in the foreground, with the battledores of the participants just extending into the image at lower right and left, while a shuttlecock float through the sky above. On the far shore, the impressive gate and walls of a daimyo's mansion line the street, with Mt. Fuji visible beyond the trees and two fire towers poking up above the rooftops in the distance. Kites fly above the city, another New Year's pastime. An interesting composition, nicely colored and shaded.
