Usugumo by Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Original Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892) Japanese Woodblock Print
Usugumo

Series; Mirror of Beauties Past and Present, 1875 - 1876

Usugumo - Amusing image of the courtesan Usugumo holding a cat in her arms. She smiles with delight as she cuddles the animal to her chest, although the cat does not seem too happy about it. She wears a purple outer robe bordered with small white cats over layers of red tie-dyed under robes. Her hair is elegantly styled with many combs and hairpins, some of them decorated with cats. A cat also appears on the small circular crest on the sleeve. A charming subject with vibrant color, fine detail in the hair, and faint embossing on the cat's fur.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Partially backed with paper. Vertical wrinkle. Slight soiling and ink offsetting, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
