The Pagoda at Yasaka, 1930

Comments - Beautiful landscape view of the pagoda at Yasaka in Kyoto as evening falls. Yellow and orange light floods the sky, the drifting clouds tinged with purple and gray in the early twilight. A few birds wheel around the pagoda, which towers above the rooftops below. This subject by Yoshimitsu was included in the Toledo Museum of Art's 1936 show "Modern Japanese Prints," one of two exhibitions at the museum which helped introduce the shin-hanga or new prints movement to the United States. A lovely image with wonderful color and fine bokashi shading.
