Comments - Terrific depiction of the famous night attack of the Soga Brothers at the Shogun Yoritomo's hunting camp at the foot of Mt. Fuji. The brothers waited years to avenge the death of their father at the hands of the nobleman Suketsune, who accompanied Yoritomo on his hunt. In the center, the younger brother Goro battles Yoritomo's retainers, grasping one by the wrist and flinging him through the air while extending his sword. An adversary on the ground attempts to pull him down, grabbing his robe as Goro steps on two other opponents, their eyes bulging out of their heads. To the right of Goro, someone appears to have hurled a dead fox or wolf with its legs tied together at the samurai. A driving rain fills the dark night sky, adding an ominous note to the atmosphere. A dramatic illustration from this legendary tale of honor and revenge.
