Garden Cool by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Garden Cool

Comments - Interesting scene of two women in a garden. At right, a beauty relaxes on a bamboo bench, enjoying the cool evening air. She wears a blue and white kimono with blossoming plum branches along the hem, a fan decorated with irises at her side. At left, a servant stumbles along under the weight of a heavy wooden pail of water, one arm thrown out at her side for balance. Her summer kimono features grasses and plants, a black and white plaid apron tied around her waist and a towel draped over her shoulder. Stepping stones lead through the garden at right, with a pine tree next to a black fence at top center. An attractive design with wonderful detail in the setting.
