Carving and Printing Woodblocks - Interesting design depicting the production of woodblock prints. The top image shows two men carving blocks, with a few already carved blocks resting against a small wooden chest behind them. Below, the printer rubs a baren across the back of a print to transfer the ink from the block onto the paper. Brushes and dishes of pigment are laid out on the floor and atop a chest at right. This charming image comes from "The History of Ukiyo-e Prints," published by Watanabe Shozaburo in Taisho 4 (1915).
