Iwai Kumesaburo III as both Dote no Oroku and Palace Maid Takegawa, 1850

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait of Iwai Kumesaburo III as both Dote no Oroku and the palace maid Takegawa in the play "Osome Hisamatsu Ukina no Yomiuri." At left, Takegawa smiles at her companion as she holds the collar of her outer kimono, which is patterned with folding fans and flowing water. Dote no Oroku grins back at her over her shoulder. She wears a short violet coat over a brown and black plaid kimono, a dotted towel draped over her shoulder. The figures are nicely set off by the blue background.
