The 47 Ronin, Act 2: Wakasanosuke’s Mansion: The Pine-cutting Scene, 1854 - Handsome illustration of Act 2 from the classic kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura." After hearing of Lord Wakasanosuke's plan to avenge Moronao's offensive behavior toward Lady Kaoyo, the loyal Honzo cuts a pine branch to offer to Wakasanosuke as a sign of his support for the plan. He stands near a stone lantern in the garden, a sword and lantern in hand, ready to slice a branch off a nearby pine tree. Wakasanosuke watches him intently from a cushion on the verandah, leaning forward, while a beauty eavesdrops from behind a screen at far left. A nicely detailed setting.
