Confrontation between Kashiwagi Korokuro Shigeyasu and Kunisuke, 1851

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a confrontation between the samurai Kashiwagi Korokuro Shigeyasu and Kunisuke. In the center, Shigeyasu thrusts his sword at his opponent as he leans back on one hand, having tumbled to the ground. At right, Kunisuke grimaces at him angrily, gripping his weapon with both hands. At left, Shigeyasu's wife watches with a smiles as she leans forward to retie her obi, seemingly unconcerned about the fight. A grassy slope fills the background, with steps at right leading to a mansion beyond, with colorful maple leaves against the softly shaded night sky. An interesting design with expressive figures and an attractive setting.
