Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Scene from Sekai awase chocho komon, 1859

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene depicting the nursemaid Otora offering a cup of tea to the sumo wrestler Nuregami Chogoro. She smiles shyly as she offers the tray, her young charge riding on her back. Chogoro watches her with a frown, a pipe in one hand and a tobacco pouch and pipe case in the other. He relaxes on a bench at the tea stand, one knee tucked up beside him. From left, the actors are Iwai Kumesaburo III and Kawarasaki Gonjuro I in a scene from the play "Sekai awase chocho komon." Nice expressive figures in an interesting, well detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 19 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels, backed with paper. A few holes, slight thinning along horizontal and vertical folds, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few creases, a couple stains. Please see photos for details.
