Ashikaga Jiro no Kimi Attacking Sugibae, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Dramatic scene of the samurai Ashikaga Jiro no Kimi attacking the beauty Sugibae. He kneels atop a fallen ninja dressed in black as he raises his sword above his head. Sugibae tosses at lantern at him as she turns her head away, a long letter caught between her teeth. At right, a young woman cowers behind her sleeve, smiling slyly. Her brocade obi is loosely wrapped about her waist, the fabric trailing at her sides. Autumn grasses and blossoms fill the background beneath a softly shaded night sky. Beautifully detailed with a burnished checked pattern on the black kimono. An interesting design with an attractive setting.
