Original Wood Printing Blocks - We recently acquired a small group of original Japanese wood printing blocks. These hand-carved printing blocks provide wonderful insight into the complex process used to create a woodblock print. Some blocks are double-sided with pigment remaining. We rarely come across blocks, and these would make an interesting and unusual addition to any Japanese woodblock print collection.

This printing block - This is a single printing block that is carved on both sides. It features a circular crest with comma shapes that is truncated across the top and red pigment on one side, and a figure that may be a doll made from folded paper with black pigment on the other side. A small piece of wood has been attached to one side for registration purposes.
