Black Peony by Gyoshu Hayami (1894 - 1935)

Original Gyoshu Hayami (1894 - 1935) Japanese Woodblock Print
Black Peony

Fuji Arts’ special acquisition from Momose - This print is from a beautiful group of limited edition prints recently acquired from the archives of the publisher, The Momose Print Company of Tokyo. We purchased the entire balance of the publisher’s limited-edition inventory of all designs. They are only available on the secondary market and have become increasingly difficult to find. The prints were originally offered in a shin-hanga limited edition promotion from Momose. The Shinsui and Kaburagi beauties were sold for 280,000 yen each (approx. $2,750).

Comments - Striking image of a rare black peony, with a large blossom atop a slender stem, surrounded by foliage with a bud just beginning to open below. Beautiful shading on the petals and leaves adds dimension. A large format woodblock that would make a handsome and unusual display. This print is from a limited edition of 300, and comes with the original certificate noting the edition size, but the certificate does not have an individual number on it.

Artist - Gyoshu Hayami (1894 - 1935)

Image Size - 15 1/4" x 20 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few creases at edges. Please note, due to the size, this print may be shipped rolled. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
