Original Asai Hidemizu Japanese Woodblock Print
Maiko with Dancing Fans

Fuji Arts’ special acquisition from Momose - This print is from a beautiful group of limited edition prints recently acquired from the archives of the publisher, The Momose Print Company of Tokyo. We purchased the entire balance of the publisher’s limited-edition inventory of all designs. They are only available on the secondary market and have become increasingly difficult to find. The prints were originally offered in a shin-hanga limited edition promotion from Momose. The Shinsui and Kaburagi beauties were sold for 280,000 yen each (approx. $2,750).

Comments - Lovely portrait of a maiko or apprentice geisha in profile holding a folding fan. She wears a deep blue kimono patterned with cherry blossoms over an under robe with pink flowers on the collar. Her hair is adorned with clusters of flowers, some trailing along the side of her face. The folding fan and the fan on the background at left are sprinkled with metallic gold flecks, some of which have oxidized to a darker tone. A beautiful, colorful large format design that would make a handsome framed display. This print comes from a limited edition of 350, but is not individually numbered.
