Women beside a Peacock Screen, 1857

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of two women in an interior, separated by a magnificent screen decorated with a peacock on a rock beside a rushing river. The matron at right, tilts her head with a frown, looking suspiciously out of the corners of her eyes. Her white outer robe features an embossed geometric pattern dotted with stylized tie-dyed pine sprigs and cherry blossoms. The beauty at left smiles happily as she eavesdrops, holding a package in one hand. Blossoming plum branches on the panels lining the back of the room create an attractive setting. A nicely detailed design.

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 19 1/2"
