Scene from Genji Moyo Furisode Hinagata, 1851

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait featuring from left, Nakamura Kantaro I as Kawajiro and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Mitsuuji in the play "Genji Moyo Furisode Hinagata. Kawajiro grimaces as he hands a letter to the nobleman who rests his clasped hands atop his knee, looking down with an angry frown. Kawajiro wears an intricately patterned tie-dyed kimono in red and violet over a red under robe, tied with a yellow print obi. A floral ornament trailing ribbons hangs at upper left, with a yellow cloth drapes over an object below. An interesting design with fine line work in the hair, nicely detailed.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight separation at ends of vertical centerfold, repaired. Slight soiling, stains. Please see photos for details.
