Miya: Sawamura Tanosuke III as Komurasaki and Ichikawa Ichizo III as Shirai Gonpachi, 1860 - Handsome double portrait from the play "Hanagatami Gojusan Tsugi" of Sawamura Tanosuke III as the courtesan Komurasaki and Ichikawa Ichizo III as ronin and murderer Shirai Gonpachi. She looks up at her lover with a sweet smile as she pats the side of her face with a tissue. Gonpachi stares back at her with a worried frown, knowing that he faces a death sentence for his crimes. The large figures are set against a softly shaded night sky. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and faint embossing on the white kimono collar.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Diagonal folds. Stitching holes at one side of each panel, large loss at corner, a few holes, repaired. Creasing, wrinkling, toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few stains. Please see photos for details.
