Original Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty Stepping on a Sword, 1863

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty stepping on the sword of a man trying to attack her. He scowls angrily as he tries to free the weapon while she looks over her shoulder with a happily smile, seemingly unconcerned. Her green print obi is wrapped loosely around her waist, with a sword tucked at her side, and a comb is slipping loose from her hair, giving her a slightly disheveled appearance. Foliage fills the background beneath the softly shaded night sky. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Wormholes, mostly at edges, repaired. Slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details.
