Angry Confrontation, 1874

Comments - Interesting kabuki triptych depicting two scenes divided diagonally. At left, two men scowl at each other during an angry confrontation. The beauty in the center tilts her head, smiling strangely. The background features a huge tie-dyed crest set against a blossoming plum tree at night. At right, Nakamura Shikan VIII plays a grinning matron carrying an umbrella. At her side, a boy played by Nakamurao Komataro looks up with a slightly worried expression. A handsome design with strong graphic impact.
