Scene from Koko ga Edo Ko-ude no Tatehiki, 1863

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Koko ga Edo Ko-ude no Tatehiki" of a group of five commoners dressed in similar blue and white checked kimono with different light blue crests over the shoulder. The young man at upper left, clenches the blade of a sword between his teeth, looking out of the corners of his eyes at the fellow at right, who carries a ladder and frowns unhappily. The other men wear frown with anger or worry as they exchange glances, two of them gripping swords. From left, the actors are Bando Mitsugoro VI as Maekami Sakichi, Sawamura Tossho II as Jinzo, Ichikawa Kuzo III as Tsurugi no Chozo, Ichimura Kakitsu IV, and Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Ude no Kisaburo. Nice expressive figures with fine detail in the hair.
