Bando Shuka I as Kijin Omatsu and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Natsume Shirosaburo, 1851

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of the female bandit Kijin no Omatsu. She grins slyly as she looks up at an inset portrait of Natsume Shirosaburo holding a baby to his chest. She wears a striking black kimono with a pattern of pine sprigs and falling rain over a red under robe decorated with skulls and bones. She has short hair atop her head, with longer locks pulled into a low ponytail over her shoulder, a few loose wisps framing her face. A terrific design, beautifully detailed with embossing on the skulls and bones and the white kimono collar.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight separation at end of horizontal centerfold, repaired. A few creases. Please see photos for details.
