Kawarazaki Gonjuro as Tadanobu Rihei, 1862

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro as the thief Tadanobu Rihei, grimacing angrily as he grips a sword high above. He wears a blue and black checked kimono with gray plaid insets over a tie-dyed under robe, a blue and white dotted towel wrapped around his neck. Short hair sticks up atop his head with few wisps of hair framing his face, giving him a slightly disheveled appearance. A bold design with the large figure set against a black night sky.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Small hole, repaired. Wrinkling, rippling, slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
