Frightened Beauty and Trio outside a Shrine, 1881

Comments - Interesting triptych featuring two kabuki scenes. At left, a frightened beauty cowers behind her sleeve as her companion scowls angrily. At right, a beauty is caught between two samurai during a confrontation outside a shrine. She looks over her shoulder with a worried expression as she holds one hand out in a stopping motion trying to intervene as the samurai at right draws his sword. A stone fence and temple gate can be seen behind the trio, with blossoming cherry branches framing the red sky. From left, the actors are Onoe Taganojo, Ichikawa Kuzo, Onoe Taganojo, Kataoka Gado, and Ichikawa Teruzo. A colorful design with expressive figures.
