The 47 Ronin, Act 3: The Quarrel at the Palace, 1847 - Lively scene from Act 3 of the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the drama about the 47 ronin. At left, Lord Hangan can no longer take Lord Moronao's insults, and draws his sword in a rage, striking him on the head. A samurai grabs him from behind to restrain him while Moronao cowers on the floor, clutching his wound. Behind them, the wings of the palace frame a courtyard with a blossoming cherry tree and a pine. A dramatic depiction of this scene, with fine detail in the architectural setting.
