Original Toshihide (1863 - 1925) Japanese Woodblock Print
Amazement at the Strength of Kinoshito Fujishiro

Comments - Intriguing scene showing the young boy Kinoshito Fujishiro demonstrating his amazing strength by pulling a heavy stone tied around his waist with rope. A samurai crouches nearby, watching in astonishment as the boy crawls across the ground towing the weight behind him. The warrior wears a blue kimono tucked into patterned hakama pants, and straw sandals, his two swords at his side. A rugged pine tree frames a view of a country home, with a stream running through the landscape beyond. A fascinating subject, nicely drawn with an attractive setting. Includes burnishing in the black sword scabbard.
