Series; Twelve Months of Genji

The Twelfth Month: Snow Moon and the Style of Winter Dress, 1867 - Terrific winter view of Prince Genji and his companions crossing the Sugatami Bridge at night under a falling snow. He smiles as he stands at left, sharing an umbrella with a beauty. He wears a red coat with a pattern of oversize chrysanthemums and splashing yellow water, trimmed with a black collar and tasseled bows, over a blue kimono. A woman and a young girl wait for them in the center, while a maid wearing a tie-dyed apron over her striped kimono hurries across the bridge at right, passing a man with an umbrella partially closed around his head. A bold design with a striking composition, detailed flecks of metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone to simulate falling snow.
