Trio in an Iris Garden

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a courtesan and two men in an iris garden. The fellow in the center holds up a small drawing of a lion figurine, scowling angrily as he looks at his companion at right. The fellow looks up with a cheeky grin, a pipe in one and a tobacco pouch and pipe case in the other. The beauty smiles happily as she watches the man in the center. Large iris blossoms and green leaves against a red background provide a dramatic setting for the figures, and a simulated black lacquer frame borders the image. The actor at right is Nakamura Shikan. An interesting design.
