Comments - Handsome kabuki scene depicting a swordsman threatening a commoner at a shrine. He thrusts his blade forward with a tight-lipped frown, his other arm behind his back. His intended victim looks up with a defiant frown, clutching a white cloth in his hand. Another rogue leans forward aggressively at left, his hair cropped short on top and pulled back into a side knot. The red pillar of a torii gate looms against the deep blue night sky, framed by pink and white cherry blossoms. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Sadanji, Ichikawa Danjuro, and Nakamura Shikan. An intriguing subject with expressive figures and lively color. Includes burnishing on the black kimono collars.
